What is Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the measure of the blood in your arteries, tubes that deliver oxygenated blood away from our heart to the rest of your body (Don't confuse these with Veins which carry blood back  toward your heart and lungs to become oxygenated). It is essential that you have a certain amount of pressure to pump the blood around your body, but to much off this can lead to a high cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes.

What is "High" Blood Pressure

High Blood Pressure means that your blood pressure is constantly higher than the recommended level (120/80). Having high blood pressure increase your chance of having a stroke or heart attack.

What causes High Blood Pressure

There isn't a define cause but there is some things that play a big part. These include:
  • Being obese or overweight
  • Not doing enough exercise
  • Consuming to much salt
  • Not consuming enough fruit and vegetables
  • Genetics
  • Consuming to much alcohol on a regular basis

How to Reduce Your Blood Pressure

Lifestyle changes such as:
  • Losing weight
  • Reduce the salt in your your diet
  • Drinking less alcohol
  • Eating a balanced diet with fruits and vegetables
